Radiology Clinical and Fundamental Science Research Day – Wednesday, May 29, 2024

The UBC Department of Radiology is thrilled to announce a collaborative event crafted to honor undergraduate students, MSc, PhD, post-doctoral fellow, clinical residents and fellows for their invaluable contributions to the field of imaging science and radiology.

Event Details

• Date: Wednesday, May 29, 2024
• Time: 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM
• Location: Blusson Spinal Cord Centre at Vancouver General Hospital, 818 West 10th Avenue

This event will only be held in-person.

Registration:

A full event program, including schedule and presentation details will be shared in mid-May.

Call for Abstracts — OPEN

We invite undergraduate students, MSc, PhD, post-doctoral fellow, clinical residents and fellows to submit an abstract for consideration to present at the event. Winners will be selected by judges to receive an award. If you would like to submit an abstract, please click here.

Please note that we can only accept a maximum of one abstract per award per person. The deadline to submit an abstract is Monday, April 15th at 12:00 noon. Applicants will be informed of a decision in May. It is expected that if you submit an abstract, you will be available to present in-person on Wednesday, May 29th.

  • Background as to why the project is important, or potentially so, to patient care
  • Clearly stated hypothesis

Fundamental Science (Oral and Poster)

Summary: Awarded to fundamental science trainees (undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral fellows) presenting research projects which are considered the most deserving, based on content, scientific methodology, and presentation.

Dr. Brian W. Goodacre Memorial Award for Interventional Radiology

*The prize will support the cost of presenting the winning research project at a scientific meeting such as ‘Society of Interventional Radiology.’

Summary: Awarded to a radiology resident with the highest cumulative score on his/her Interventional Radiology presentation, which is based on excellence in scientific design, clear presentation of data, validity of discussion, and clarity of oral presentation. Interventional Radiology topics could include vascular and non-vascular topics, or advanced biopsy techniques.

Dr. Peter Poon Memorial Research Award

*It is anticipated that the funds awarded will be used to off-set the costs for statistical data analysis, laboratory or imaging time, or raw materials used in such endeavors.

Summary: These awards are for radiology resident(s) who have started a project but are still acquiring data or have a hypothesis generated and experimental design confirmed. The aim of the award is to encourage original hypothesis-driven research in which Residents are the principal investigator or co-investigator. This is a research-in-progress award. The hypothesis, experimental design and data collection methodology should be clearly stated, but no data needs be presented.

Dr. Robert Wallace Boyd Award

Summary: Awarded to resident(s) formost promising hypothesis-driven research proposal in the field of imaging/intervention. Data is not required at time of submission to be eligible for this award.

Dr. Gordon E. Trueman Award

Summary: Awarded to those resident(s) and fellow(s) completed projects which are considered the most deserving, based on content, scientific methodology, and presentation.  Evidence-based conclusions should be presented.

Burrard Medical Imaging Clinical Fellow Research Award

Summary: Scientific presentations of hypothesis focused research by UBC Radiology affiliated clinical fellow(s).
